Stellar’s Jay
This beautiful jay was located in December 2014 near Steamboat Springs. This is bird #1 and launches our birding hobby.
The Stellar’s Jay, named after Georg Wilhelm Stellar, is similar to a Blue Jay but with a black head. It can be located all the way from Alaska down through the western United States to Nicaragua.

Black-Billed Magpie
This bird, #2 on our list was spotted in Steamboat Springs also in December of 2014.
The Black-billed Magpie is a member of the crow family and can be spotted in the western part of North America. It is a non-migratory bird, preferring to stay local to one spot. Its tail makes up over 50% of its body length.
