August 10, 2015- Once again I went to a place looking for a particular bird and found it. Five minutes after arriving at Bolsa Chica yesterday, I located a Kestral sitting on a fence post. He looked a little ragged when I first saw him but managed to preen himself into respectable shape and I got a fantastic shot of him. By fantastic, I’m really just saying in-focus. Now that I’ve been doing this for a while and am not just snapping shots of everything with wings, I’m able to enjoy and appreciate our avian friends in a more relaxing but still attentive way. This is making the entire experience more enjoyable. I’m also getting within reach of the goal I set at the outset of getting to 100 birds identified and captured in photographs this year. I know for a fact that they are not all on the ABA (American Birding Association) approved list, but they are on my approved list and that’s all that matters.
